| The Alpha Philosophy The Alpha Philosophy is based on the theory that dogs will defer to and follow the commands of a strong, consistent, fair leader. Dogs, much like their wolf ancestors, are best suited for living in social groups or packs. These packs are led and controlled by the alpha animal. The "alpha" is the animal that is best able to maintain order in the pack. The alpha animal not only makes the rules, he enforces them. Your dog will view his human family as his pack. In the absence of a strong leader or in the presence of a weak leader, your dog will attempt to assert himself in that position. Therefore, it is imperative that you become the alpha pack member. You must maintain order by making and enforcing the social rules for your "pack". |
