Protection Package
Protection dogs are generally great companions, well tempered and will not attack everyone that appears at your front door. They are taught to "Turn ON" and "Turn OFF" on command or depending on the situation. It is important to note that protection dogs are not Attack or Guard dogs. Attack or Guard dogs generally do not like people and are conditioned not to obey commands from anyone. This is why protection dogs need to possess special attributes, and owners need to follow strict rules in handling and approach. Additionally protection dogs must possess a good working drive, positive attitude and sense of courage. At the same time they also need to be well behaved and respectful of others.
Before considering protection training for your dog, an evaluation to see whether you and your dog are suited for this type of training will need to be conducted. This evaluation will take a close look at the breed, intelligence and temperament of your dog to determine whether it has what it takes to protect you and your family reliably and safely. We will also help you become more familiar with the degree of obedience that is required from your dog prior to beginning the most basis levels of protection work.
Because your dogs temperment and basic obedience are fundamental to the success of our protection training program, Star Dogs will not consider training your dog if it displays any of the following attributes:
- A general aggressiveness towards other dogs and people
- Lack of obedience of handlers
- Uncontrolled and unpredictable behavior
If your dog also appears to be insecure, fear motivated or timid and is not respectful and well behaved we will not recommend protection training as it may be very difficult and expensive in the long run.
We also recommend that you postpone or do not apply protection training to your dog if you have small children at home. Since it is not uncommon for children to engage in play with other children, this may be confusing to the dog and may cause aggression that may put them at risk.
If you would like to learn more about our Protection Training Package or have your dog evaluated to find out if he or she will qualify for protection training, give Star Dogs a call today.
